Is there anyone out there who may be able to help me??
I have traced my family name from Walsall in Staffs to Belbroughton. I have a marriage in the church records of Belbroughton 1655 between Elias Blewitt & Margaret Hall. I also have records of their 8 children .
My problem is that I have not been able to find any record of either one of them before their marriage.
If anyone has any transcripts or can help me in any way I would be most grateful. Many thanks,
Michael.

For this period, the Hearth tax Returns may help. Some family history societies have transcribed and indexed some/all of the records for their county. Their use in this case is in finding the spread of where a surname is recorded in the 1660's and 1670's. Clusters of a surname may indicate a good place to look for parish records. Your chap may have moved from the parish where the family lived, but it is likely that other family members remained there.

Similarly wills have often been indexed and may help in either providing specific information about people who were related, or again areas where the surname of interest existed.

PCC (Prerogative Court of Canterbury) wills can be searched and downloaded online at http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/

But several other lower courts may have dealt with your family's probate and this is where you need to check the local FHS or Record Office for any indexes. These are sometimes online, sometimes have to be purchased.
