Looking for information on my mother's (Elizabeth Ann Wood) family. Her father's name was David John Wood I believe he wa born in Tylorstown in 1884 to an Edward Wood and Ann Wood (formerly Jenkins) Her mother's name was Tabitha Woods (James) born in Penrhiwceiber in 1886 to Joshua James and an Elizabeth (formerly) Balmer.

I would be very greatful to hear of any history on these families

Thanks

Wood is a tough surname to find, rather, you find way too many of them ! Do you really have both Wood & Woods in the line. Double tough.

It is always best to start with what you know, spend the mony on certificates to be sure and then go to the next step on the ladder.

The website below helps you to find the registration district for a specific town. All the BMD records are under a registration district, so when it and the town differs, you might miss an entry by not recognizing that it is the one you want.

http://www.fhsc.org.uk/genuki/reg/index.htm

The next site has been put together by volunteers and they are trying to put all BMD entries from Sept 1837 - about 1915 in their database. They have made good progress, but it isn't complete.

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/

Ancestry Usually a pay subscription site, it currently has BMD page images for free. If you know the date and the event isn't on FreeBMD, this is where those volunteers get their info to transcribe. They are scanned images of the same books found at the Family History Centre, London.

As an example, here is the marriage entry from Free BMD. As you can see, they were married in London

Marriages Sep 1910
James Tabitha Southwark 1d 273
Wood David J Southwark 1d 273

To order certificates online, go to http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

The cost includes airmail postage (or 1st class if in the UK) to whereever you live.

Further example from Free BMD, using the registration dist, website as a check.

Births Dec 1886
James Tabitha Pontypridd 11a 409
************************
Births Dec 1884
Wood David John Pontypridd 11a 432
*********************** However, neither town you mention is shown as in this District. In fact, I couldn' t fund them in any distrist, so they may be too small.
