I have been trying to find my g grandfather for over 5 years now.

George Trigg(s) born about 1848
1881 Petersfield
1891 Camberley
1901 Aldershot

Grandfather George Triggs was born in Guildford 1879 parents George and Rosanne Triggs (nee Ricketts) but I have been unable to find their marriage. They are together in all three censuses but for the 1901 she is down as Rose Ricketts housekeeper, he still has married down. They also have a lodger. Granddad is in the Boar War so not there.

There was one other child William who died before he was 1.

As I don't have any information on the Trigg(s) family, granddad George died in Ypres 31.10.1914, Mum was only 5 and she had 3 younger brothers so no information expect his medals.

I had thought I found George with a father William but I don't think thats him as he is in Guildford 1901 and 10 years older than my George. Both these Georges died 1903, and my g 1904 Merrow both are in the Guildford district.

I have found one George Triggs the right age in 1861 in Ash, I can't read where he was born only Hants.

Sorry to be so long winded but I thought if I added what I know someone would be able to help me.

Hi Irene,
I've found the family in 1881 at Down Rd. Merrow & in 1891, same address but for the life of me I can't find them in 1901 using the information you gave. Can you give me a reference number. Are they still at Merrow?
For your grandfather, George Triggs, FreeBMD has a birth registration June quarter 1880 Guildford (2a 67) Have you considered that George, your great grandfather was married before he married Rosanne? There is a marriage on FreeBMD for a George Triggs December quarter 1872 Gulidford. Female names on the same page are Elizabeth Holden & Marianne (Mary Ann) Mann, but that's not complete. There are two female deaths registered for Guildford, Eliza Triggs September quarter 1874 age 36 (2a 41) & Susan Elizabeth Triggs June quarter 1875 age 27 (2a 49) Also consider that he might NOT have married Rosanne. If between us we can narrow down the time-frame & track-back through the census I might be able to find the marriage.

Hi Jane

Yes I have George 28th Feb 1880 birth certificate, that's how I got his mothers maiden name. I can't find him on the 1901 also, but I do have a copy from my local records office which I found when 1901 first came out so I know its there they were still living in Downs Road, Merrow my mother & Uncles were born in Merrow.

I had come to the conclusion that they never married, I know there was something about granddad running away to join the army, at least I think it was granddad and not g granddad. Knowing how things get changed over the years!! and thought they could have argued and that was why Rose said she was the housekeeper!!

Nan died in 1972 and my mum 1966 so everything was told a long time ago. I am not sure when g grandmother died and if she remained Rosanne Triggs or Ricketts. I shall look into that later.

What I am looking for the a possible birth for George 1848, I am looking at all George Trigg/s born in Surrey and Hampshire in case one the the 3 censuses are right.

The 1861 could be Elstead, Ancestry spelt it Wetsted certainly ending in sted and could be W or U to start.

I am trying to following through all George Trigg/s in the hopes I may just pick up my one.

Would be great to have some help this has been driving my out of my mind as I keep going over the same things.

Irene
