Here is my mystery and perhaps someone can help me solve it.

John Hook (born 1845/6 in Swanton Abbott) Married Susanna Bond around the 1869- 1870 era. He is on the 1871 census as having a child called Alice and a wife called Susanna. The he dissappears - no trace of him in Norfolk anymore.

I find a John Hook in the London area in 1881 - 1891 - 1901 cenus with the same birth year and also from Swanton Abbott married to a Jane.

I thought that maybe Susanna and Alice died - but cant find death records for them. Then I find a Susanna who fits the one married John in the Nursing home in 1901 census but it claims her to be a widow. Also she dissappears off the Norfolk Census for the 81/91 census and Alice is totally missing aswell.

Now my question is - Is this guy the same John that I am looking for in Norfolk area that moved to London. Did they have divorce in those days? Did he fake his death and marry someone else in another district? Did he die and no-one mentioned it. I really would like to know what happened to him.

Any Ideas please.

Thanks

K

Keren

Thanks for the reply - the first reply to the Hooks is no - it's not them they are Hook not Hooks. And where did you find Susanna at age 40? I been looking to her for days :)

Also - what happened to Alice and is that John that I speak of the same john. The more I look at this the more it has to be.

Hi, I have found my rellies under some of the worse spellings for names possible, and ages vary depending on census!! as do places of birth.

Perhaps Alice is Mary Alice, as you didnt state her age, I didnt run a search for her.

Found the 1881 one on familysearch.org and second one on 1837online.com (used up last few credits), i searched for her by name and rough age taken from the 1881 one, as I said the results only showed 3 of them around 37 to 40.
Just remember that the census is only as good as the man taking it!! Lol, so expect wrong information, esp if the person telling him isnt too sure and cant read or write.

My missing ggggrandad was born in Ireland, Wales or Lancashire, depending on which census I read! so I havent got a chance of finding his birth!
