Hello I'm Rick,
I would like to say H'i to you all. I am very new to all of this, so bear with me.
I have recently started to do my family tree and being from Durham but now living in Yorkshire I am finding it difficult.
Anyway just saying hello to you all hope you are well.

Welcome to these forums. Once you've had a good browse around all its nooks and crannies, post a message about what you're researching - there's a good chance that someone will either be able to help or offer advice.
Good luck

Hello Rick, and welcome!!!
I have been researching on and off for years, and am getting there slowly. Still get all confused sometimes!! I am in East Anglia, and my ancestors are mostly scots and irish, with a helping of Lincolnshire for good measure!!!Enjoy you searching. Regards Lizziebeth

Hi Rick
Welcome to our addictive, enchanting wonderful world. When you sit at the computer only planning on doing a census search for the 15 spare minutes you have before you go to work and arrive there an hour late. When you decide to do just one more look at the Archive CDs directory for your missing fellow and get diverted as to the number of inns and how long the mail takes to get from place to place and leave two hours later and still haven't looked for your fellow.
There are so many friendly knowledgable people on these forums, many of whom have been reseraching for longer than they probably want to admit.
When you feel comfortable please tell us about the people you are researching and particularly about brick walls. Demolition is something in which many of us excel.
Regards
helen

Have to have a little smile at that. For an Aussie, that sort of distance is counted as being 'next door'.
Try being in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, or USA (like many of this forum's members), and have ancestors from (in my case) Devon, Cornwall, Wiltshire, Essex, Norfolk, Middlesex, and Fermanagh (for starters) with some of them moving from Cornwall to Maine to Wisconsin to Illinois to Wisconsin and back to Cornwall before packing up and moving to Australia.
That is where this forum is so wonderful - there are people who will spend time to find things for you, and who do it with good humour into the bargain. The hard part is trying to find ways of returning the favours.
So, enjoy the forum and its people. I am sure you will be made as welcome as I was.
