Can anyone help me to decipher an occupation in an entry from the 1841 Census please?

HO 107/405/6 ED20 FOL32 P4

The entry is for Ann Blow age 35 living at Lake in the Brading South District of the Isle of Wight. (Her husband is missing from the entry although I belive he was still alive at the time.)

At first glance I thought the occupation was a scribbled "Labourer" but after looking at other labourers on the same page that looked less likely.

Any ideas gratefully received.

If you take the word in isolation ,as I did at first, I think that it is a bad stab at Labourer. If you look at other entries on the same page it does not look like the other "labourers". On the third page instead of writing Ag Lab the Enumerator has written Ag Labourer which to my sad old eyes matches the "Labourer" matches that's in Ann's entry...however you pays your money...guessing is not an exact science;) .

Thanks UK.

I think I'll go with you on this one and plump for labourer even if it is unusual for a woman. It almost looks as if he wrote it in later. Perhaps he had tired eyes by then as well!

Best regards,
Lynda
