I cannot find her on the 1901 census. Would you please have a look and see if you can find her. At time of 1901 census all but one known children have been accounted for. The only missing child is from first marriage - Betsy Maria Jewer b bet 1862-1866 but this could be due to a marriage that I have no info on. This is all info I have on her. If someone could find her, I would be extremely grateful. A second set of unrelated eyes can do wonders for finding someone.
Maria Miller/Jewer/Joyce
1839 - born as Maria Miller in Poole, Dorset
1841 - census in Canford Magna, Longfleet, Poole, Dorset as MILLER
1851 - census in Ringwood Rd, Longfleet, Canford, Poole, Dorset as MILLER
1859 - marriage 1 to Thomas Jewer in Poole, Dorset
1861 - census in West Street, Poole St James, Poole, Dorset as JEWER (mar)
1871 - census in West Butts Street, St James, Poole, Dorset as JURE (wid)
1875 - marriage 2 to Israel Joyce
1879 - birth of Sydney in Poole, Dorset
1881 - census in West Butts Street, Poole St James, Poole, Dorset as JOYCE (mar)
1881 - birth of John in Poole, Dorset
1891 - census in Hungry Hill, Hill House, St Pauls, Poole, Dorset as JOYCE (wid) occ as Charwoman

Carrie,
You are unsure of Betsy's birth year... Do you have this?
Birth Record
-- Betsy Maria Jewer
-- 1862 3rd Quarter
-- Poole Dorset
-- Volume 5a
-- Page 284
Just to clarify: You're looking for Betsy Maria in the 1901 census. You have all the others just not Betsy, is that right? Also, she could have married by then so you are trying to find her, possibly, under a married name?

You've probably seen this:
Marriage Record
-- Bessie Jewer
-- 1888 2nd Quarter
-- Poole, Dorset
-- Volume 5a
-- Page 524
Unfortunately, 2 brides and one 1 bridegroom, William Thomas Smith, listed on this page and I don't see a likely looking Betsey Smith with husband William in the 1891 or 1901 censuses. Hmmm, where to look next?

Hi Trish,
Thanks for the birth details, hadn't checked freebmd for awhile, it wasn't there last time.
I am actually trying to find MARIA on the 1901 census. I agree that Betsey was probably married and I believe it to be before the 1891 census, so the marriage one you posted is probably her as well. will have to investigate these.
MARIA is actually the one I am trying to find. |banghead|
1911 - death @ Union Workhouse Infirmary, Union Road, Poole
(compared to my 2nd last date I have for her of 1891 census in Poole, I don't think she moved out of the area)
Could she have married for a third time.

Could she have married for a third time. Married a third time? I guess anything is possible but likely not if you have found her death recorded with surname Joyce.
Can you give the reference for Maria in the 1891 census?

Reference for 1891 is RG12/1638 F113 p24.
I can't find Maria in 1901, she's not in the Workhouse yet at least. And as she dies as JOYCE, it doesn't look like she remarried, though she could have been living with someone. I can't even find any likely Marias with other surnames.

TomThanks, Tom.
Maria doesn't appear to be living in the same place in 1901 -- reference RG13/1979 Folio 66 Page 38.
I, too, looked at various combinations and permutations but no go. Perhaps she vanished into thin air???
