The 1841 census transcript on the CFHS website gives wife Jane and daughters Ellen and Arabella HERRING (HO107/72/8/13B). Husband John is missing.

Could anyone with the 1841 census please check that this is not a tanscription error and that he is not there?

Thanks
Jon

John is not there, in fact he doesn't appear to be in the county. The only other person in the household is the first named (usually denoting the head). Grace Dawson, 65, Ind, Y (ie of independent means, born in the county, ages 15+ rounded down to nearest 5 years). A mark made by the enumerator indicates that the 3 Herrings are a separate family unit (a little shoal? :) )from Grace, however, she could still be related to them - Jane is not shown as a servant.

Thanks for that info. Grace is actually Jane's mother.

I assume John must have been elsewhere.
