Hi

Ive just started investigating my family roots. I know my Grandads father was called Domnick Rowlands who was born 1906 and died 1975. He was married to Mary Gagin or Maccleroy.

He worked as a docker and was well known as whacker Rowlands and was one of very few people allowed to use a special hook for dragging bags into the storage sheds.

I also know that his father was William Rowlands, potentially from Mold but ill start with Domnick for now

Work away all week and wont get a chance to visit the library or town hall and havent had any joy on freebmd or one or 2 other places online.. Anyone who has any info or advice, its all much appreciated.

Freebmd lists the birth of Dominic Rowlands in March quarter 1907, Birkenhead volume 8a page 472. The GRO also lists his death: Dominic Rowlands, March 1975, Liverpool volume 36 page 1029, born 27 December 1906.

The birth certificate will give his mother's name & maiden name & his father's name & occupation. You can get a copy online through the government site www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificate (http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificate)

LancashireBMD does not list his marriage, so he presumably married in Birkenhead. At the moment the marriages on CheshireBMD only go up to 1900, so you will need to go through the GRO records yourself. At the moment they are free to access on Ancestry.
