After World War I my grandmother went from Holland to England as a young girl. In Bournemouth she found work as a servant in the house of wealthy family with the name Taylor.
My grandmother fell in love with a Scottish sergeant-major with the name George Patterson (unfortunately I do not know the name of his regiment) and she got a child from him (my father). Because this sergeant-major was a married man who had his own family they decided to part.
I know that there is an entry of birth in the General Register Office in Londen.
From this document appears that my father (first names : Henry George) was born in Christchurch (England) on the 24th October 1921 and that the name of the mother is Tetje Kostwinder. The name of the father is not mentioned. My father is baptised in the Church of England in Poole (Parish register ?) and he has been taken care of for several months in a baby home in Poole.
My grandmother returned to Holland with her child in 1922 and married a few years later with Cornelis van Dijk so our familyname is now: van Dijk.
