If anyone visits Devon record Office could I request if anyone could take a look at the following (if you have the time and if it's allowed to do so) of the following document(s) please:
Business & Political Correspondence Category - ref. 1700m-0/C/P/459 - date: 1796
Letters of Francis and Thomas Drake, Wells, Somerset
Subject: Departure of Comte Vallis
As someone who only recently started into looking into the Vallis family, I've had various correspondance from people alleging that they had heard/read that the Vallis name in Somerset/Wiltshire may spring from this source, supposedly a French aristocrat, although I personally don't believe it as I have managed to track quite a few Vallis (and derivatives) well back to middle of 1600's. As after a long search I have now found a positive reference to a Comte, I'm curious to see what it's about and if there is any substance or anything relevant in it.
