Henry Charles NEWLYN was born in 1882 in Fleet to William Slade NEWLYN and Phoebe Elizabeth NEWLYN (formerly BYLES nee CRABB).

Henry was at 13, Barrack Street, Bridport as an 18 year old lodger for the 1901 census. He also appears in the 1935 Kelly's Directory at 14, Barrack Road, Bridport as a beer retailer.

I haven't found him after that. Does he ring any bells for anyone and also, what was/is at 14, Barrack Road, a public house by any chance?

Regards

Pauline Luck

Hi Pauline,

14-16 Barrack Street is currently the site of the Tiger Inn so it was probably some sort of pub/beer outlet in those days. I got the following info from www.bestpub.co.uk (http://www.bestpub.co.uk/)

I don't know if you are in striking range of Bridport to go and have a look. If not, next time I am down there (could be some time) I'll have a look and see if I can get a photo for you.

Thanks Dennis, good to know that it is still there. A photo would be good, when you are in the area. I am in Buckinghamshire but I do spend holiday time in Devon, slightly nearer. I might persuade my husband to take a detour on the way this summer.

Thanks again

Pauline
