For years I have been having great difficulty in discovering the birth of James Tasker, a convict transported to Oz in 1820 for 7 years.

He was 35 at the time of his trial making his date of birth c. 1785 and his native place was listed as Buckinghamshire but no mention of a town. He married Sophia Eaton at St Mary Magdalen Oxford in 1807 and was working in South Hinksey Berkshire at the time of his arrest so I believe he may not have moved too far from his town of birth.

I have tried IGI without any success at all and would appreciate any members help in knocking a hole in this major brickwall.

One of my ancestors was Sophia Tasker. According to the Census she was born about 1777 in Oakley, Buckinghamshire. I have not been able to find out the names of her parents. She married Richard Hinton of Cuddesden, Oxfordshire and lived there for the rest of her life. Their children were called Daniel, John, Elizabeth and Henry. Maybe there is a connection with your convict ancestor. I would be very pleased to find out more about your ancestor.
