First, apologies if you were confused by my last thread - so was I! I tried to edit before posting, and somehow the text eat some of its own tail!! Here's a tidier version.

A disappearing trick:

The 1881 census has the following information about Thomas Buckley:

1881 - Motts Close, Gamlingay, Cambridge
[i]Thomas BUCKLEY, Head, M, Male, 24, Kitcullen Bridge, Ireland, Groom
[i]Marianne BUCKLEY, Wife, M, Female, 25, Harlton, Cambridge
[i]Elsie M. BUCKLEY, Daur, Female, 2 m, Gamlingay, Cambridge

Multimap can't find Kitcullen, but it does have Kilcullen, in county Kildare.

So I know Thomas Buckley was born in Ireland, and at some stage he came to Cambridgeshire to work as a groom. He found a bride Mary Ann or Marianne Buckley. Their marriage certificate has the following:

[i]Marriage Entry 142: 8 April 1880: Parish of Little Shelford
[i]Thomas Buckley, age 23 Bachelor, Groom, Hatley St George, Cambs
[i]Mary Ann Flack, age 24, Little Shelford
[i](Note that Mary Ann signed as Marianne Flack)
[i]Fathers: Thomas Buckley, deceased, John Flack, Labourer
[i]Witnesses: Henry Jacobs, Elizabeth Wilkinson.

So in 1880 he was living in Little Shelford.
By 1881 census he has married and had his first child.
They had a second child Norah in 1884 and a third Agatha Mabel in 1885 (my step-grandmother). But by the 1891 census the three Buckley girls are being cared for by an aunt and uncle in Leicestershire.

Nr Green, Stathern, Leicestershire
Flack, Robert 41 Harlton, Cambridgeshire, Head
Flack, Maria A 36 Bourn, Cambridgeshire, Wife
Buckley, Elsie M 10 Gamlingay, Cambridgeshire, Niece
Buckley, Nora 7 Ickleton, Cambridgeshire, Niece
Buckley, Agatha M 5 Ickleton, Cambridgeshire, Niece
Flack, John 77 Stow cum Quy, Cambridgeshire, Father

BUT WHAT HAPPENED TO THOMAS AND MARY ANNE?? I can find no death information for either of them.

Anyone got any ideas as to how to solve this mystery?
