Hello, I really need to confirm a date of birth, and cannot think of any other route having had some great help from some of your members. Has anyone tried asking their local FNHS office to look up medical records of deceased family members. He died in 1968. Is this worth a try?
My only other thought was his place of employment, but how long are employment records kept?, he probably retired in the mid fifties. It was the local Borough Council so they may hold records longer than most I suppose.
Any help gratefully received.

Well yes. I see the logic. I think local authorities would have required a birth certificate for membership of the pension scheme, if for no other reason.

I doubt if the chances of staff records having survived this long are very good. However, you can but ask. I think I'd be inclined to try the local authority first and then the archives.

I would have thought that all such records would be protected by confidentiality. I presume you already have his death certificate.

I did think that data protection act would be an issue. I do have death cert but as its before 1969 it only shows age on death. Still I can only try...

Trying the obvious first, have you searched the GRO index of births to see if you can identify him and so obtain his birth certificate?

If you cannot identify him just from the GRO index, when was he born (approx year?)

I distinctly remember my Company Personnel Officer viewing my birth and marriage certificate and then signing a form to the effect that these had been examined and my age and marriage status were as per my pension application at retirement. The documents were not copied nor were the details taken down. Similarly a civil servant did the same for the two Canadian Government Pensions

Past postings have indicated that applications to the (UK) DSS for genealogical information from the records of relatives has been turned down. I seem to recall that the DSS pension paperwork indicated that they would investigate BM Registrations if an applicant did not have proof of birth or marriage

I once had the experience on behalf of a relative many years ago of having to obtain a letter from the Parish Priest giving details of the PR entry for a Irish birth as proof of birth and age for a UK (Protected Person?) passport application

I have three birth certificates one of which is a strong possibility, but it is a very common name and the place of birth is unknown, I only have the possible surrounding area. The occupation of the father, on the birth cert matches with the marriage certificate occupation, the fathers name is the same as his, all this corresponds with info on the 1901 census. However I still feel I need confirmation as I only had year of birth 1890 and area, ie. Snowdonia in the first instance. Maybe I'm expecting too much but I would like to know I have the correct one.
I have had a search done on the military records but that did not give any confirmation.
