Cawood Place

I have an ancestor in Bradford in the 1901 census living in Cawood Place. Does anyone know where this was? I have a feeling it was somewhere in Barkerend. Also, does anyone know anything about the workhouse on Barkerend?

I have ancestors who were born in the workhouse, thats how I found the site, I have no connection to Bradford so I can't help with Cawood Place.
Though I did find a map for London to search out an old address that had been demolished. Try googling OLD MAPS, thats what I did.

Barkerend Road is a main road heading east out of Bradford, and the Alan Godfrey reproduction of the 1906 OS street map (Yorkshire Sheet 216.04 - shows a Cawood Street nearby - on the west side of Undercliffe Street. In a fairly quick skim over that area, I can't spot a Cawood Place, though these maps don't always show every street name.

The Bradford Union Workhouse was in Little Horton, on the other side of the city centre, at the junction of Little Horton Lane and Park Road (see Alan Godfrey's Yorkshire Sheet 216.08) - what do you have to connect the workhouse with Barkerend [Road?]? (As far as I know, there isn't a place called Barkerend.)

Thanks for the map tip but I can't seem to be able to find a map that I can view.
Barkerend is an area of Bradford east of the parish church of St Peter. Barkerend Road is still there today. On my 1841 map of Bradford, it shows a Union workhouse in this area. I would like to know more about it as it was directly opposite the road where my g-g-grandfather lived which was Park Street.
I would like to know what this area would have been like and if living in the vincinity of a workhouse was considered to be 'low'. I have checked out the workhouse site and cannot find a reference to this particular workhouse, maybe the cartographer knew of plans to build a workhouse in the area and the planners changed their minds?

A lovely man called Tony at Bradford family History Society has answered my questions. Just in case anyone was interested, heres what he said, and thanks everyone for your help.

If you have the 1851 census CD you will find the enumerator's return of a "Poor House" right at the end of Enumeration District (ED) 33 of Piece No 2307 in Bradford East End, on Folios 174-178. This is the same ED that has Park Street in it. However, I don't know anything about the "Poor House" itself, such as when it was opened or closed.

I have a Street Directory of 1921 and Cawood Place begins at 35 Undercliffe Street which itself begins at Barkerend Road. It can't have been far up Undercliffe Street because it is only no. 35 and I think it would have been the 3rd street on the left hand side as you leave Bradford, the 1st being Butler Street and the 2nd Shakespeare Street. I say left hand side because the road numbering system usually has odd numbers on the left as you leave a town/city.

I have checked out the workhouse site and cannot find a reference to this particular workhouse, maybe the cartographer knew of plans to build a workhouse in the area and the planners changed their minds?From what I've been able to gather, I think this area was mostly pretty grim - though according to the map, if you went up Park Street and continued along Upper Park Street you would get to Hillside Villas, which look to be a much better class of housing, and this is only about 200 yards from Barkerend Road.
