My Grandmother (Harriet Eveline Gilbert) emigrated to Canada with two sisters, about 1914 we think. Grandmother went to Quebec, her Sisters went to Calgary.

Grandfather (Richard Ernest Warrey) paid for my Grandmother to return about 1916 and married her. The Sisters stayed and married Farmers.

My Father didn't know the names of the Sisters, by looking in the 1901 Census I think they are Alice Maud Gilbert and Florence Gilbert.

I have recently purchased my Grandparents marriage certificate and one of the witnesses is an Alice Maud Mary Rodway, this may be one of the Sisters who returned briefly with my Grandmother for her Wedding. If so Rodway was her married name.

During the second world war two of the Sisters Sons came over to fight, my Dad cannot remember any names but says one of them was wearing a kilt as part of his uniform. Does anyone know of a Canadian Regiment that wore kilts?

Can anyone suggest where I would start to look for these Sisters. I have tried to look for Harriet leaving England and arriving back again on board a ship, but to no avail.

Are there any online facilities I can search for Calgary to see if they did actually settle there? Marriages perhaps?

Any suggestions thankfully received.

Regards
Jill

Hi Jill

Each province has it's own BMD registry and its own rules for certificate applications.
I don't know if this will help but this is the web site for Archives in Alberta

Good Luck
