Hi, I have recently been helped on the British Census Forum in trying to find my Burns family in 1851.
This is them in 1861 living in Brettle Lane Kingswinford.
Henry Burns age 29 Glass Cutter b Northumberland
Elizabeth wife age 26 b Hanley Staffs
Charles William age 5 b Amblecote
Sarah Ann age 3 b Kingswinford
George age 9m b Kingswinford
They were trenscribed as Brom!

I have Charle's birth certificate and from the help given from this site I have been able to get Henry and Elizabeth(Gray)'s marriage which took place 18/4/1852 in the Parish of Walker, residence was given as Byker.

I have Elizabeth in 1851 in Newcastle upon Tyne but the family found in 1851 H0107/2408 Byker ED 2
and transcribed as Durn may not be my Burn's family as they are also in Byker in 1861 and by then my William is a Widower and living in Kingswinford .

Has anyone any ideas on what I should do next to find Henry and his parents so I can find them in 1841 and 1851.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Regards

Cathy

Henry and Elizabeth(Gray)'s marriage which took place 18/4/1852 in the Parish of Walker, residence was given as Byker.......then you will not find them together on the 1851 census. Therefore.....

I have Elizabeth in 1851 in Newcastle upon Tyne but the family found in 1851 H0107/2408 Byker ED 2
and transcribed as Durn.......you will have to search for them seperately. As you have their marriage cert it will (or should) list their fathers names. This should help you with the correct family.

Have you found them on census' 1871, 81, 91 and 1901? searching through all census' together has helped me tremendously in making sure that I have the correct family and also pick up some other info along the way as well. ie if they have a grandchild listed or a parent/sibling with them as well.

As for finding Henrys mother as well, you will have to look at either microfiche or microfilm usually held at the relevant family history centre if you are in the UK. As for me I am in Australia and go to my local LDS centre and order the film in for viewing.

Hi Carrie,
Thank you for your reply.
My Henry and Elizabeth died between 1861 and before the 1871 census.
I think you are right I need to find Henry's birth in the Northumberland registers as you suggest.

Many Thanks

Cathy

Found no marriage record of any Henry Burns in the April - June 1852. (18-04-1852)
Oct - Dec 1852, (Stoke Damerel, Devon) but Louisa or Mary Ann do not match
Where is the Parish of Walker?
