Windle - St Helens

No matter what side of my family tree I go into I seem to end up back at this place!! Anyone have any info on Windle or local history resources that I can tap into? The family were there in the mid 1800's - anyone got any idea of where I can get maps for that period of the area and perhaps details of mills/ coal mines/pits? The family name is Petterson.

Found this in St Helens Census 1861.
Sophia Pettinson age30 Governess,Born 1831
lived in Eccleston Street Windle.
