Missing birth record

I have been looking for the birth record for my grandfather William Henry Whadcock's uncle of the same name. According to the Leicester Borough Lunatic asylum archive records he was admitted to the asylum 7th May 1878 and died there in the June quarter 1916, the death certificate was witnessed by his sister in law my great grandmother Mary Whadcock. Now according to the 1871 census when he was still living with the family he was born approx 1853 in Warwickshire, this tallies with his death at 63 in 1916, but I can't find a record of his birth. the only willliam whadcock was born in Ecclesall B!!!!!! Could he have been adopted?

I have been looking for the birth record for my grandfather William Henry Whadcock's uncle of the same name.......he was born approx 1853 in Warwickshire...but I can't find a record of his birth.
A couple of possibilities -

1) His birth was not registered. Prior to the 1870's there was a certain failure to register. The degree to which this occurs varies from place to place, in some areas it was low, others it was higher. You may just be unlucky and have to rely onfinding a record of him being baptised.

2) Have you tried variant spellings of Whadcock? Also, in searching try to think how a clerk at the GRO may have mis-read the handwriting on a certificate in front of him, or just mis-spelt it - e.g. Whadook, Whadock, etc.

My Gt. Grandmother (Catherine Amelia FRANCIS) was born 1852 in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, plus she had a twin brother, John.

I searched the BMD Indexes looking for her birth cert ref. as I wanted to find out the maiden name of her Mother, Amelia.

No entries at all for Francis/Frances/France etc. for her..... just one in the correct area of Catherine Bradley Francis. I'm not going to buy it, as not only is the middle name incorrect, but there's nothing for a John either!

I searched from 1851-1853 inclusive, so I decided that they weren't registered, as Geoffers has mentioned, seeing as their ages and birthplaces are consistent on the census returns.
