My gg-grandmother Sarah Jane HART 1851-1940 was born at North Walsham then moved to Durham. Her father was Robert HART and grandfather was Philip HART. Both men were Bricklayers. Does anyone have any more information about these two men? I know Robert married Harriet FRENCH 28.05.1851 at North Walsham (her father was Eli FRENCH).
Sarah Jane married Robert HANNANT (bc 1848 Westwick) after both families moved North - why the move to Durham?
Who was Philip HART married to, where and when?
Help would be appreciated.

My gg-grandmother Sarah Jane HART 1851-1940 was born at North Walsham then moved to Durham. Her father was Robert HART and grandfather was Philip HART.I've got the ATs (1725-1811/12) on fiches, I'll have a browse of them later and see if Philip turns up in them.

Sarah Jane married Robert HANNANT (bc 1848 Westwick) after both families moved North - why the move to Durham?Work. Posters advertising work in Industrial towns were placed all over Norfolk and quite a few responded. The continual migration from rural Norfolk to urban areas, and emigration overseas continued for several decades. Being bricklayers, they would have loads of work with the expansion of Stockton and Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Darlington, etc.

For Hannant, try contacting Jacqui Lever who has a registered one-name study. See the GOONS web-site http://www.one-name.org/ for details on how to contact her.

I've just found an baptism in North Walsham ATs which may be your chap:

11th March 1787 - Philip son of William HART and Sarah his wife, late BA(rnes?)

Couldn't find Philip's marriage there up to 1811/12

Archive CD Books excellent CD of the 1841 census
http://www.rod-neep.co.uk/acatalog/nfk-census.html
(you need disc 7 for North Walsham)
shows Harriet French with her family on HO107/784/23 f6 p5
and Mary (no sign of Philip) with Robert on HO107/784/24 f38 p11

A lot of information is available to those who don't live near Norfolk. See the threads on useful web-sites for Norfolk research on this forum.

The Parish Register Transcription Society sell copies of records on CD.
http://www.prtsoc.org.uk/
The Norfolk Transcription Archive
http://www.genealogy.doun.org/transcriptions/index.php
has indexes to many records and photos

Norfolk Record Office will sell copies of many registers on fiches
(North Walsham Registers have only fairly recently been deposited with the NRO, so it may be that they still only sell fiches of the ATs).
They may help you to move your research forward before you visit Norfolk.
