Not really a grump, just a comment on what I knew about anyway. Today I received the letter informing me of the increase in my State Pension - a very small rise at that, barely enough to cover the increase in gas prices !!

Appended was a note to say that from my eightieth birthday later this year I will receive a further increase of 25p a week. TWENTY FIVE WHOLE PENCE. I can buy an extra bag of crisps, a small chocolate bar, a third of a cup of tea in a snack bar, a few sheets of printer paper - in fact not much.

I don't know whether to feel insulted or just shake my head sadly and say thank you for small mercies. Nothing to do with this government by the way, it has been in force for years at the same amount,

Now Eileen don't have a rush of blood to the head and spend it all at once.......remember you'll need to keep some back to pay your increased Council Tax.

In fact, Geoffers, a note in a local rag says that Sheffield will have one of the smallest Council Tax rises in the country, but they don't tell us just how much it will be - more than the increase in the pension I don't doubt.
