View Full Version : EMERY - Edgefield and area
Hello Geoffers
I think i have done this right, if not you will soon put be right.
I am putting all the NE Norfolk Emerys into my family tree.I can connect nearly all Emerys back to one John Emery 1649-1722 of Bodham/Briston.
Edgefield is a major part of this family, then onto Baconsthorpe,Briston,Bodham
& a lot of other NE Norfolk places.
What i am asking for help in at this point in time is Edgefield. Does anybody have anything on Edgefield 1600-1700.
Know Emery was in that area at that time. I have already a great deal of help from members of the family plus other researchers for other areas.
Emerys are there also in late 1700's to mid 1800's. Been told they had something to do with Edgefield Hall?
Regards
Noel

First off, I've split your message off into a new thread so that the original thread doesn't stray too far from its original purpose - and also to make sure that your message doesn't get lost amongst all the others.
The Michaelmas 1664 Hearth Tax Returns were transcribed and indexed by the NNGS. They include entries for Edgefield, Bodham and Briston; but the only EMERY is in
E179/154/707 membrane 19
West Beckham
EMERY, Willm - 2 hearths
The Lady Day 1666 Hearth Tax Returns show:
E179/253/42 f50r col 2
Kelling
Wm EMERY - 1 hearth

The Norfolk Transcription Archive
http://www.genealogy.doun.org/transcriptions/index.php
has some EM(M)ERY entries but the earliest is from the 18th century. Some Edgefield ATs are included as well.
NROCAT
http://nrocat.norfolk.gov.uk/dservea/Index.htm
has some references to EMERY, including probate from Bodham in 1722

according to various sources
inc Geoffers and this site
http://www.norfolkhistory.co.uk/populations/populations-parishes-1815.html

Hi Geoffers and Nev
Sorry nor replied before, been off ill.
George Emery of Edgefield now know was born Cromer 1758 died Edgefield 1846.
George was the son of Thomas Emery 1722-1779 & Sarah Frankland 1727-1780.
With my cousins & others we are putting the Emery tree together.
Another of the Emery side is looking for Elizabeth Newnham nee Emery b.abt
1748/50 died 1837. Also Lucy Burton Bishop nee Fitzherbert nee Emery b.abt 1758 died 1844. Lucy adopted William Green son of James Green & Sarah Green
nee Emery in abt 1823. William was born 1816.
Bill Green has a oil painting of Eliz & Lucy above handed down through the family
& was told that they had something to do with the Emery's of Edgefield Hall?
If anybody has come across these names in Edgefield we would be glad to help out in other researches if we can.
Thanks Geoffers on Heath tax's etc. Thanks Nev also.
Noel
