Hi
Can anybody help with my research on the Evason family from Wolstanton?
My great-grandfather's name was Jesse born 1887 he had two brother's called William born 1881 and Joseph born 1883 and three sister's called Winifred, born 1872 Betsy born 1874 and Hannah born 1882 also known as Emma. Their Father's name was William born 1842 in Hanley and their mother's name was Harriet formerly Glover born 1845?. William's father was called Joseph but died some time before they were married in 1867. I would like to find out more about him. I can't order William's birth certificate as i can not find a record of it. Does anybody have any suggestions. I know Jesse married somebody called Benson but once again having problems getting certificate as i had wrong quarter. He had one child called Jack who was my grandfather he died in liverpool in 1950-51 Jesse died in 1965 in stoke on trent but i do not know the name of the cemetery or how to find out which one as i would like to visit his grave and the church where he was buried. Any help would be greatfully recieved.
Kind regards Joan

Do you have them on the census? I was just looking and could only find a Jesse born around 1887.
1891 census, if it's the right family.
Newcastle Under Lyme
William, 49, coachman
Harriet, 45
Winifred, 15
Emma, 12

Joseph, 7
Jesse, 4

Hi Joe
Sorry i have written Jesse's birth date down wrong i have mixed him up with Emma whose real name is Hannah i don't know why they changed the name. Yes you do have the right family. I have managed to trace them back to 1871 census but am having trouble going further back as i am having trouble findin William's father Joseph found a Joseph on the 1861 census but the age for William was wrong but the birth place was right. need to do a check on the 1851 census. Thanks for your help
Kind regards Joan

Hi Jo
I already have a copy of the marraige certificate in which it gives me William's fathers name which is joseph but as i can not find a birth record for William i can't find out who his mother was. I have found a reference to a joseph in a census record but the age for william is wrong so at the moment i can't get any further. Do you have any idea how i can find out where about in stoke on trent Jesse is buried as i have been told that he wrote a book which my grandmother gave to the church and i would like to have a look at this.
Kind regards Joan

Hi Joan,
I would have thought it would be a good idea to see if it was in the newspaper, it may say the church name. Do you know where he was living in 1965?
I've had a look for some church names some links that may be of some use.
