I am trying to confirm emigration dates for 5 Redford brothers who were from Great Hale Lincolnshire. They emigrated from England to Canada I believe in 1854/55. Their names were Thomas Redford (b 1823), Henry Redford (b 1826), John Redford (b 1828), Stephen Redford (b 1830), & William Redford (b 1833). I believe I have confirmed Henry's arrival date of December 11th, 1854 in the port of New York from Liverpool. The ships name was the Fidelia from the Black Ball line. I had originally thought they had all came over on the same ship but the records do not show that. I'm only assuming the other 4 brothers arrived around 1854/55 as well on a different ship. Thomas would have been travelling with his wife Sarah (b 1829) & dauther Ann (b 1853), John would have been travelling with his wife who was also named Sarah (b 1828). They may have arrived in another port as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I would suggest going to one of the Mormon family history centers, where you can hopefully view the original on the referenced microfilm (pages vary) to see what you can find there. That should narrow your search considerably.

Thanks Debbie. I actually have all the census information. I'm hoping to nail down the arrival date and ship name they came on.
Thanks for taking the time to look up their names.

You have Henry (age 28) coming over with Mrs. Henry (age 28) and young Thomas (4) and Sarah (3) on 11 Dec 1854 on the Fidelia out of Liverpool to New York?

Yes, I have the records for Henry & family. His family members listed confirm he is one of the 5 Redford brothers. I'm hoping to locate records for the other 4 brothers now.

I could not find William in the 1851 census in England, but think I have found him in 1850 US. He (age 17) appears to be in Byron, Genesee county, N.Y. working as a miller and boarding in the home of Alexander (31) and Nancy A. (27) Gardner. If this is he, then he came over first.

I'm not sure if that would be him. I know they all settled in the Hanover Ontario area where they farmed. They all died in the same area as I have pictures of all 5 of their graves. I have a possible arrival date for William of July 9th, 1855. The ship was named Orient. It lists him as 22 years old and a shoemaker. This could be him as I know for sure his older brother Thomas was a shoemaker. I just have no way to confirm it yet. I hoped other Redfords would be listed on the same ship for confirmation.

in the 1891 census for Arnabel Twp, Bruce county, Ontario there is a 32-yr-old Stephen Redford who was born in England. This would make his birth year abt 1859. Would this have been either of the brothers' child? If so, that brother was still in England in 1859...

Not what you're looking for, but I found this:

REDFORD, John, m, January 12, 1911, 82 years 6 months, born: England, farmer, widower, cause: pneumonia, 4 days, infm: Dr. Arthur Gun, Bentick Twp, burial: Durham, father: Thomas REDFORD, mother not listed, England, (Grey County) 013174-11.

1881 Canada census:

John REDFORD M Male English 52 England Farmer Weslyan Methodist
Sarah REDFORD M Female English 53 England Weslyan Methodist
Maria REDFORD Female English 20 England Weslyan Methodist
Sarah REDFORD Female English 18 England Weslyan Methodist
Jane REDFORD Female English 16 England Weslyan Methodist
John REDFORD Male English 13 England Weslyan Methodist
Margaret REDFORD Female English 10 England Weslyan Methodist

Family History Library Film 1375896
NA Film Number C-13260
District 154
Sub-district B
Division 2

Household Number 33

So it looks like John, at least, came over in 1871, since daughter Margaret was born in 1870-71 in England, and John is head of household in the 1871 Canada census.

same year (1881, Canada):

Thomas REDFORD M Male English 57 England Farmer Weslyan Methodist
Sarah REDFORD M Female English 52 England Weslyan Methodist
George REDFORD Male English 21 O <Ontario> Farmer Weslyan Methodist
Alfred REDFORD Male English 17 O <Ontario> Farmer Weslyan Methodist
Ann Maria REDFORD Female English 15 O <Ontario> Weslyan Methodist
James REDFORD Male English 13 O <Ontario> Weslyan Methodist

So, Thomas' son George was born in Ontario in 1860, meaning Thomas came over between the 1851 England census and 1860 when George was born.

Next:

Stephan REDFORD M Male English 50 England Farmer Methodist
Sarah REDFORD M Female English 44 O <Ontario> Methodist
William REDFORD Male English 21 O <Ontario> Son Methodist
John REDFORD Male English 15 O <Ontario> Son Methodist

Martha REDFORD Female English 5 O <Ontario> Methodist

So Stephen married in Ontario abt 1859-60? Meaning he came over btwn 1851 and 1860 when William was born.

Arvy REDFORD Female English 17 O <Ontario> Weslyan Methodist

William married in Ontario before Jane was born, so before 1862. But he's not in the 1851 England census, so...

Again, not what you asked for, but may help you locate Stephen's marriage, and marriage date may further limit search for immigration date:

4700-75 (Grey Co) REDFORD, Martha, f, Oct 14, 1875; father - Stephen REDFORD, farmer; mother - Sarah SELLERS, infm - father, Bentinck Twp

Martha's birth lists her mother's maiden name...

William married in 1860 in Peel County at the age of 27. Copies of the record are available from the Marriage Registers of Ontario, Canada (1858-1869) -- PEEL COUNTY. Order online: http://www.ingeneas.com/ingeneas/index.html

Stephen Redford was the eldest son of Thomas (5 brothers). The 1881 census actually shows him being born in Ontario. I have substantial information on the family history. Just trying to nail down arrival dates.
Thanks again for your interest.

Rob,

The 1901 census gives the date of immigration to Canada in column 12. Unfortunately, they are not searchable by surname, only by place. Which you know to be Bentinck, Grey, Ontario. Use this link: http://data4.collectionscanada.ca/netacgi/nph-brs?s4=ON&s1=bentinck%2C+grey&l=50&Sect1=IMAGE&Sect2=THESOFF&Sect5=FS31PEN&s10=1901&Sect6=HITOFF&d=GS31&p=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.collectionscanada.ca%2Farchivia net%2F02012202_e.html&r=0&f=S
- there are 18 groups of images to search, some having just 2 - 4 sets of images and some having 13 or 16. If any of the brothers were still living there in 1901, perhaps with patience you can find the year, at least.
