Could someone tell me if there is a way of finding out the day which corresponds to a certain date please?
I am trying to find out what day of the week the 02 Oct 1967 was.
Try out this site Diane http://www.school-resources.co.uk/what_day_of_the_week_were_you_bo.htm

"what day of the week the 02 Oct 1967 was"
Some reference books include tables from which to calculate days of the week.
Using these suggests it was Monday.

|wave| Ann & Geoffers,
Many thanks to both of you, Monday it was. :D I've saved the link to my Favorites as well ...... only thing is Ann, I'll probably spend ages there looking things up e.g. my husband doesn't know the day he was born! ;)

P.S. Ann ....... I just had to tell you something. I just wondered what day my favourite Grandma was born, so I entered 08 April 1892 which was her birthday. I've just collapsed in a heap of laughter, as a box came up asking:
Are you that old? |laugh1| (The answer was Friday)

That made me giggle - after all the site is 'school resorces' - that would make you Granny the oldest schoolgirl in the world |biggrin|
Best wishes

Made me laugh too Diane/Ann!
You even had me checking that I `was' really born on a Friday. My mother always told me I was, so I have never queried it, but I did check....guess what? She was right! :) I checked hers as well as she was born in 1904, and she was Friday as well. Must have been something in the water! |biggrin|

You can also convert dates between Gregorian, Julian and Hebrew calendars at
http://www.rosettacalendar.com/
and it shows you the day of the week inherantly as part of the displayed calendar (Sunday being the first day of the week).

The calendar no family historian should be without.

Unfortunately Ken you need to know what you are actually doing with this site as when converting old/new it is really comparing alternative calendars.
Take for example 23 Feb 1666/67
Calisto shows it as-
England 23 feb 1666
Scotland 23 feb 1667
Germany Prot. 23 feb 1667
Italy 5 mar 1667
etc.
Whereas Albion ed. shows it as
2/23/1666 Old Style corresponds to 3/5/1667 New Style
Not very helpful if you simply want English dates but useful for comparing England with Catholic countries such as Italy, Spain Portugal etc.

Many thanks to everyone for your responses and all the links you've listed - I'm now spoiled for choice! :D
I have saved them and will enjoy 'exploring' them at leisure.
This is one of the things I like about BG Forums ...... ask a question about more or less any problem and someone is always willing to help with the answer. :)

If you are manipulating data in Excel you can use the custom date format. The relevant Help screen extract is:
If you want to sort the cells by date, format the cells to show the day of the week. If you want to sort or filter by the day of the week regardless of the date, convert them to the text for the day of the week.
Select the cells that contain dates you want to show as the day of the week.
On the Format menu, click Cells, and then click the Number tab.
Under Category, click Custom, and in the Type box, type dddd for full weekdays (Monday, Tuesday, etc.), or ddd for abbreviations (Mon, Tue, Wed, etc.).
