I need to send for a birth certificate for great great grandfather WILLIAM HALLAM. On the various census forms he was born, about 1817, in the following places

1851 Thamwood Tan Leicestershire
1861 Kings Norton Derbyshire
1871 Charley Forest Leicestershire

In 1839 he married HARRIET CLERK in Duffield Derbyshire.

He died in Ashton under Lyne in 1874

Of his children 2 were born in Duffield in 1845 and 1847
There is evidence of HALLAMS in the Duffield area inthe 1830s.

Can anyone help with any of these locations? could they be villages/areas near each other? I've looked at maps until my eyes hurt.

Thanks

Kath

Hi
The only Kings Norton's are in Leicestershire or Birmingham,
The other two could be Charnwood (Forest) in Leicestershire.
Try www.multimap.com (http://www.multimap.com) for the locations
cheers

On the IGI, there is a baptism for a William Hallam, 30 March 1817, Parents Isaac and Catherine, at Oaks in Charnwood.

Hope this helps, Karen

Thank you both very much. I had hoped that Kings Norton would not be in Derbyshire as I couldn't find it! Charley Forest is an old name for part of Charnwood I've found out. I think that some of the Local names may have disappeared but now I can pursue the IGI link. Williams' father was Isaac.

Again thank you

Regards
Kath :)

You won't be able to get a birth certificate - they did not start until July 1837 and he was born in 1817. All you may get is a copy of the parish register for his baptism - which, if you're very lucky, may have his date of birth.
