This was a very dangerous occupation at various places throughout Britain. Explosions often took place, causing death and injury. There is a publication called 'Gunpowder Mills Gazetteer' by Glenys Crocker ISBN 0 903090 97 X - not sure where you would get it from. I bought mine at Faversham gunpowder mills. The book gives a brief history of the gunpowder industry and details of the gunpowder mills throughout the country.

Inherent dangers may have given rise to the following job ad. -
"Man wanted to work in dynamite factory. Must be willing to travel".

If any gets a chance to come down my way, there's a very good museum at the Royal Gunpowder mills at Waltham Abbey, Essex.
They have a website at:
http://www.royalgunpowdermills.com/
It's a huge place (all the different sections had to be kept apart because of the danger of explosions) and a good day out.
