My website currently includes surname indexes for a mixed bag of 11 UK Census Pieces, London & SE Counties, 1851-1901.

They have not been independently checked, so will contain 'transcriber errors''.

Any corrections received will be added to the relevant page(s).

Three more Pieces are 'started' and more will follow later (hopefully).

Thanks Sunny (should have seen that your name is Roy)

Edgware 1871 is next, but will be slightly delayed as I've had a computer crash and Hard drive failure, and have not yet been able to salvage it from the wreckage.

Anyone know how to resuscitate a corrupted .XLS file?
Next time I'll make sure to save it in .CSV format which is easier to deal with.

Depends on how corrupt it is. You could try opening it in OpenOffice.org and see if you can then resave it.

But from a crash it may be unrecoverable.

If you don't have OpenOffice.org you could email it to me and I will see if it can be opened and repaired.

Thanks for the offer, Andrew. I came to the conclusion that it was'nt worth spending more time on, so created the file again from scratch (with CSV copies this time).

The original was probably partly overwritten, but I could'nt see the joins using a disk recovery program.
Thanks again. . Frank W
