Maria Lucretia FRANKISH mentioned in the 1851 census in Birmingham. She was bapt on 9 November 1799 in and married Spencer NICHOLLS on 17 December 1820 in Birmingham. She had a brother called Joshua Best FRANKISH.
Her father's name was William Berry FRANKISH, mother called Maria. Any help with this surname would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, Penelope!
There seem to be a fair few instances of the FRANKISH surname in the Birmingham area in the time frame you refer to, and many more further afield. I found the relatives you mention without any problem. If you carry out 'sibling searches' on IGI Family Search then you ought to be able to build up a picture of the family genealogy back to 1780-1800 without too much of a problem.
In addition, if you use the Hugh Wallis web site, you can use the batch numbers of the Birmingham parishes you are interested in to find other members of the family.
Before about 1780 the Frankish surname occurs also as FRANKIS, FRANKISS and FRANKES, so you will need to consider these alternative spellings.
Hope this helps.
Geoff

Many thanks for this. I have found some baptisms in the parish records in Birmingham Library for the early 1800s. It is a very popular name in E Yorkshire I believe.
