I had to laugh today when I found an ancestor on the census and for his occupation, he was described as an ordinary agricultural labourer!
As opposed to the super duper ag labs that all my other ancestors are, I suppose! :)

As opposed to a cowman or shepherd or ploughman etc. he had no particular specialty.
The title Ag Lab covers a wide range of jobs some extremely skillful, some just require a pair of hands.

And wouldn't some of the more specialised ag labs be upset if they saw the census books where often the specialised occupations are annotated " ag. lab"
But it is interesting to read of the heirarchy of the farm, who were the first to come in at night and their place at the table etc.
Of course this also occurred among the servants in the "big houses"
