Hello, Maud,

I live in Canada. My grandfather, Thomas Bennett, brought his young family to Canada from England in the very early 1900's.

To the best of our knowledge, Thomas was the son of Thomas Bennett and Sarah Anne Preston.

However, I got a copy of my grandfather's death cert. and it states his mother's maiden name as Sarah Jarvis!

She was, apparently, known and recorded as Sarah Ann Preston at the time of her marriage in 1851, and birthplace is recorded as Mount Sorrell, in Leistershire.

However, more than one determined family researcher has hit a brick wall as to the parents and locality of Sarah Ann Preston.

If I hadn't known the 'informant' of the information on my Grandfather's death cert. I would dismiss it as an error due to lack of knowledge. However, that is not the case...and I am now trying to find out if this Sarah Jarvis, was illigitimate...adopted.... whatever.......

Is there anything in your Jarvis family research that might throw some light on this???

I should add, that after Thomas Bennett's death, Sarah Anne 'Preston', remarried a man surname Gowlett...and died in the London area in 1920.

Many thanks
J

I am not sure if this is any connection at all, but I am looking for details on a Florence Jervis/ Jarvis from Essex who married Edgar Lilley, my great grandparents.
