Please can anyone help with the date of a partial solar eclipse visible in the Nottingham area in the 1940s - probably about 1942-45?
We're trying to work out the date of a family marriage, and my father-in-law (then about 10-12 years old) remembers slipping out of the proceedings to view the eclipse. We've tried googling, but could only find more recent dates.
Thanks,
Arthur
Hello Arthur
I've found a site at http://www.psigate.ac.uk/roads/cgi-bin/search_webcatalogue2.pl?limit=150&term1=lunar*%20+eclipse which seems to list the where and when of all the solar eclipses since 1900 :) I haven't ploughed through it, so don't know if you will find what you are looking for.
best wishes

Many thanks, Ann - that gave me exactly what I was looking for. Now to see if any of the dates rings a bell with father-in-law...
Arthur
(I had a look at all the smilies to see what was appropriate, and there was a smiling face with the word "moon" next to it, which seemed suitably astronomical. Then I looked again, and.... |blush| So you'd better have |bowdown| instead!)

You are most welcome Arthur, and thank you for not mooning at me ;)
Best wishes
