Is anyone else researching this name in Dartmouth?

I have finally located part of the family of my John Goodman SIMKINS who came to Australia and was married by 1853. From an online directory I stumbled across a hat maker, Clara Goodman Simkins in Dartmouth, and decided to follow her up.

Her 1849 marriage registration to George Dolling LULY arrived this morning - confirming that she is the sister of my John, both fathers being Richard SIMKINS, master mariner. Clara and George also arrived in Australia by 1851, firstly having children in South Australia before moving to New South Wales.

Hello Christine, Looking on LDS I came across this birth record:

John Goodchild Simkin
Ch: About 22 APR 1837 Stetchworth, Cambridge
Father: Richard Simkin
Mother: Sarah Brown

The middle name caught my eye. The date would make him married young I suspect. There it is for what it's worth.

Good Luck & Kind Regards
Peter Euston

Thanks Peter,
this fellow is in the middle of my two generations. Mine were pretty certainly around Dartmouth at that time.

I believe that my Richard could be the son of Richard Simkins and Ann Weeby, and was christened at Saint Saviour, Dartmouth, Devonshire 29 April 1792. I haven't found the marriage yet, but he married a Mary - born abt 1792 at Cornworthy according to census entries. Richard was at sea in 1841 and 1851 so not found to confirm his birthplace. From 1861 Mary was recorded as a widow.

Known children of Richard and Mary..
Clara Goodman Simkins, born abt 1821 at Dartmouth - despite appearing in directories she had married George Dolling LULY and left for Australia by 1851.
John Goodman Simkins, born abt 1823 Dartmouth, a mariner, not found 1841, 1851, married in Australia 1854.
Susan Letherbridge Simkins, christened Brixham 16 April 1826, born Dartmouth according to census (have all entries) Married Thomas Frances GRAHAM.
Mary Goodmore Simkins (?Goodman) christened 10 Oct 1830 at Brixham. (IGI) Nothing further found, possibly died as an infant.
Richard Came Simkins - born abt 1823 Dartmouth. Married Sarah Furneaux Sparke. Master mariner - at sea 1841 & 1851, have 1861 & 1871 census entries. Died by 1881 and Sarah later married Laurence Lee.

Just an update ...

It has been confirmed by a cousin that Richard is the son of Richard SIMKINS and Ann Weeby. Richard married Mary GOODMAN at Cornworthy, Devon, on 26th May 1816, and died in 1857.
