Hi, I am new to the forum and I hope someone has some information that will help me! My father was a member of he TA in north Yorkshire in 1939 and fought and was badly wounded in the second world war, he would never talk of his experiences and now that he has died (some years ago) and I have no relatives that can help me I have no idea as to where to get any information about his record, all I know is that he was wounded in Europe somewhere. I have his birth and death certificates, but no army number or which regiment. He my have had his reasons for not wanting to talk about the war and what happened to him and I respect that, but, he was and is my father and I have a need to know what he went through. Any suggestions that would help my search. Thanks John.

It might be worthwhile searching the London Gazette for any record of him, decorations for example. If you can find out the regiment, that might be a good start in finding his army records.

If you never used it before, the search mechanism is a bit iffy - you may need a bit of imagination in what to enter...perhaps several attempts!

Hi John
To trace your fathers war record I contacted the army personnel centre
Army Personnel Centre
HQ Secretariat
Historical Disclosures
Mail Point 400
Kentigern House
65 Brown Street
Glasgow
G2 8EX

telephone number 0141 224 2023/3303

I contacted them for my fathers record and they are very helpful

If you manage to get his record you should be able to get any war medals that he may be due, these can be obtained from
Ministry Of Defence
Army Medal Office
Goverment Office Building
Droitwich
Worcestershire
