Over a period of time I have been compiling a list of names of people from outside the area who were buried in St Mary's graveyard.It is not a comprehensive list of stays.All the people listed were patients at Prestwich Lunatic Asylum.In the actual PRs it lists Joe BLOGGS,formerly of Wapping,Prestwich Asylum, Buried Feb 1st 1868,AGE 68.I will miss out the formerly bit and the word age.I will add to this list as and when...possibly someone may find a missing soul.I will included people who were born outside of Lancashire

This one is not a stray.The vicar made a footnote at the bottom of the page of the register which,with my warped mind,think is most unusual and interesting.

I do not think that I recorded anything after 1905. You will need to find when she died before I can start looking.

Over a period of time I have been compiling a list of names of people from outside the area who were buried in St Mary's graveyard.It is not a comprehensive list of stays.All the people listed were patients at Prestwich Lunatic Asylum.In the actual PRs it lists Joe BLOGGS,formerly of Wapping,Prestwich Asylum, Buried Feb 1st 1868,AGE 68.I will miss out the formerly bit and the word age.I will add to this list as and when...possibly someone may find a missing soul.I will included people who were born outside of Lancashire

Something has gone awry with this thread. I extracted these burials until the end of 1904. This would have been in 2005 when I imposed my own 100 year rule. I am not sure if anything can be done to retrieve the missing extracts.

And I think that I've just found the burial record for my wife's ggrandmother, Margaret MULDOON and thus the corresponding GRO death registration index entry. Though I doubt that the death cert will be very informative in helping to confirm that this is the right person.

I read on another forum that there is now a memorial to the asylum inmates buried at of St Mary's Church in the church grounds. Not sure of BG Forum's policies re linking to other forums, so I won't quote the website. However, Google finds it easily enough.

Thanks again for that. Very interesting and potentially useful. But I'm still not sure if this is the right lady. If their record of her age is accurate, she is probably a few years too young to be ours. But the age at death will have been derived from age at admission and a round 40 may well have been a guess. The reason I was reasonably confident that she was the right one is that there's only one Margaret MULDOON death on FreeBMD that is anywhere near a fit and that's the Dec 1898 one at Prestwich. I've never had her down as a ship's steward, but her husband was.

I'll do some more BMD and census searching and post again when I find something. Ship's stewards and censuses don't fit together too well of course ...

Sarah Ann Hind died Prestwich Asylum 12 Jan 1877 - I think I put the wrong date before. Thanks so much for looking I guess they may have taken her back to near where the family were living in Salford. Makes me feel as though she wasn't toally abandoned. Best wishes Jean
